Friday 8/3/1996:

The next morning, we followed up on a course organized by the Coordinating Council of the National Entrepreneurship Program and supervised by the National Training Program in Indonesia, and after being briefed on the program of the course and the topics raised, we decided to contact the Regional Director to inquire about the nature of this course and its compatibility with the mission of the delegation sent to them with a specific form earlier.

Monday, 11/3/1996, at 9 a.m.:

Interview with Mr. Ali Tuneer, Regional Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Indonesia in the presence of Mr. Peter Hagul, and through the discussion it was agreed with them to prepare a program that is in line with the delegation’s scientific mission and provides access to scientific centers specialized in population and development both within  the framework of the University and in Indonesia and  Thailand as described in the attached program and which has been fully implemented.

 

Monday 11/3/1996, 10 a.m.:

The visit of the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) in Jakarta  was the meeting with the head of the Department of Social Statistics in the office, who gave the delegation a detailed explanation of the work of the office and the department he heads, explaining that the department is concerned with social statistics,  especially with regard to health, education and standard of living along with population statistics, and that it prepares a report on the population every ten years, the last of which was a report issued in 1995.

The Central Bureau of Statistics cooperates in the preparation and analysis of these data with specialized scientific bodies, such as the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Higher Education, the Ministry of Population and other relevant ministries. According to the head of the Social Statistics Department at the Office, specialized bodies and centers are usually invited to discuss any important problem related to population and development, especially those working within the framework of universities to study, analyze and express an opinion on it.

 

Monday 11/3/1996 at 14:

A meeting at the University of Indonesia with the Director and staff of the Demographic Institute, Dr. N. Heidi A. Pasay, who gave a detailed explanation of the Center’s activities, interests and future plan, where he stressed that the Center carries out the following most important activities:

  • Preparing and issuing many books and bulletins about the population
  • Organizing seminars and workshops on the population, in cooperation with a number of agencies and ministries tocomplete this work.
  • The funders are the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) along with the government.
  • The center has a specialized device that takes care of all population issues in Indonesia and seeks to spread the voice that speaks about the population to be heard throughout the country.

Visit to Ghulalon gkorn University in Bangkok Population Studies Center We met Dr. Kuawang boonsin, Director of the Center, and spoke to us about population policies in Thailand, which went through two stages:

The Director of the Center explained that Thailand has developed a number of plans, the most important of which were the third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh plans, and the objectives of each plan varied according to the stage and circumstances:

1 The goal of the Third Plan [1972-1976] was to take care of motherhood, childhood and family planning.

2 The fourth plan [19771981] was concerned with the subject of motherhood, childhood and social development.

3 The Fifth Plan [19821986] was a follow-up to the concerns of the Seventh Plan, in particular the subject of human development and social development.

4 Sixth Plan [19781991] Attention to human and social development

5 The Seventh Plan [19921996] was characterized by cooperation between the various ministries and departments concerned with the subject of family planning such as health, media, environment and education to implement the Family Planning Program (F.P.), and explained that the population in Thailand currently reaches about (58) million people, of whom 67% are aged from 15 to 60 years.
