Report on a scientific research mission by Prof. Dr. Moustafa El-Abdallah Al Kafry
For six months as a visiting professor to the University of Exeter – UK
Based on Ministerial Decision No. 2383 dated 24/12/2000
The decision of the Ministry of Higher Education No. 2383/F dated 24/12/2000 was issued approving the dispatch of a scientific research mission to the University of Exeter – Britain for a period of six months. Based on this decision, I left Damascus for Britain at 9 a.m. on 8/3/2001. I arrived at London’s Heathrow Airport at 2 p.m. I then drove by bus from Heathrow Airport to Exeter, about 400 km from London, and arrived in Exeter at 8 p.m.
The next day 9/8/2001 I went to the University of Exeter – Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies, and met with Prof. Dr. Tim Niblock, Director of the Institute in his office.
Then we toured the institute, during which I was introduced to the departments of the institute, the documentation unit and the library.
The Secretariat of the Institute, the Library and the Documentation Unit were instructed by the Director of the Institute, Professor Tim Niblock, to secure all the requirements and requirements of the research that I am preparing.
An independent office was allocated to me and equipped with a computer and the Internet in the building of the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies. The address of Emile Lee was allocated by Emile University:

I got to know the head of the economics department at the institute, Dr. Kamel Mahdi, as well as a number of researchers and professors working at the institute.
A book was published by the University of Exeter granting me the rank of visiting professor at the university during the period /9/ March until the end of September 2001. (They linked a picture of the book.)
I was given a smart card (ID) of a faculty member at the university. They linked a copy of the card. I propose that Damascus University provide faculty members with a similar identity.
I started the research entitled: (Economic Reform and Human Development – The Case of Syria).

I followed an English language strengthening course at the English Language Centre at the University of Exeter. They linked a copy of the course completion book.
I completed two papers in English. I sent them to refereed scientific journals issued by universities for publication.
First Research:
(Economic Liberalization in Arab World: The Case of Syria).
It has received approval for publication in the Journal of Durham University – England and will be published in the summer of 2002. They linked a copy of the research and the book of the University of Durham – Britain to the approval of publication.
Second Research:
(The Arab Economies and The Project of Middle – East Market).

I collected (biography) about the Syrian economy and about human development and economic reform. Attach a copy of this (bibliographic a).
I visited the University of Oxford and the Said School of Management (Said Benzes School S.B.S.), and saw the books and references in the library and met with the management of (S.B.S.).
I participated in the Conference on Globalization and the Arabian Gulf, organized by the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies at the University of Exeter, Britain, from 2 to 4 July 2001, and commented on one of the papers presented to the conference and the discussions took place in English. Iprepared a report on the Conference on Globalization and the Arabian Gulf, which was published in the magazine “The Arab Future” issued by the Center for Arab Unity Studies in Beirut.

The ceremony honoring Arab researchers Edward Said and Mohammed Arkoun participated in the ceremony, during which they were awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Exeter.
I gave a lecture at the Islamic Centre in southwestern Britain entitled: (Islamic Economy).
It has obtained the addresses of a number of research centers throughout the science of the Internet concerned with the Arab countries and the Middle East region.

An article was published in English in the bulletin issued by the Saudi Student Club in Exeter, Britain, entitled:

Through the Internet, I obtained more than 1,100 files in Arabic and English ranging in size from two to one hundred pages, related to research and my field of specialization, which is equivalent to about 40 MB.
I also spent a lot of time in libraries (the main library at the University of Exeter and the old library, the documentation unit, and the library of the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies) to get the scientific material.
I had lengthy discussions with faculty members at the University of Exeter, particularly in the Department of Economics, in the Department of Political Science, University Administration and Library Management.
Many interviews and interviews were conducted with graduate students from the university, especially those who carry out master’s and doctoral thesis research, about our Arab region.
After completing all the scientific procedures and steps and all the data, sources and information, I wrote the research entitled:
(Economic Reform and Human Development – The Case of Syria).

3- The amount of £280 spent two hundred- and eighty-pounds sterling the value of a number of books in English that I bought because I needed them to complete the research.
4 – Send a copy of the research to interested parties.
Propositions:
I propose to send a letter of thanks to Prof. Dr. Tim Niblock, Director of the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies at the University of Exeter. I invited him to give lectures with graduate students at the Faculty of Economics and the Higher Institute of Political Science.
Prof. Dr. Mahdi Kamel, Head of the Department of Economics at the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies – University of Exeter, was invited to visit the Faculty of Economics and give some lectures in the economics of the Arab Gulf countries.
Sending a collection of books to Damascus University Presses as a gift to the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies. Sending the published journals of Damascus University to the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies. He senta collection of Sharia College books as a gift to the Islamic Centre in southwestern Britain.
